Santiago Bernabéu Set to Host Finalissima Final Between Spain and Argentina
Madrid, the Spanish capital, is preparing to host the Finalissima between the national teams of Spain and Argentina. This follows a decision to relocate the match from Doha due to security concerns, making the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium the leading candidate to stage the football event.
The decision to move the match, originally scheduled for March 27 in Doha, was prompted by security incidents in some Gulf countries. This made it impossible for Doha to host the Finalissima final, as well as five other matches planned as part of the Qatar Football Festival, including a friendly between Spain and Egypt.
Both the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) consider Madrid and the Bernabéu Stadium the optimal choice for hosting an event of this magnitude.
According to the newspaper AS, Real Madrid's stadium is the chosen venue for the clash between the champions of America and Europe. The same source had previously indicated that Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat was also a candidate to host the match.
Final approval from the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is pending for this decision, which is otherwise complete apart from a few minor security details. The necessary space has also been secured for the other matches that were part of the festival.
The Finalissima's timing coincides with another match in Madrid between Morocco and Ecuador at the Metropolitano Stadium, which will require intensive security coordination with authorities.
