AS: Thiago Pitarch Opts to Represent Spain Over Morocco
Press reports indicate that the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has initiated efforts to convince Moroccan-origin player Thiago Pitarch to join the Spanish national team. The reports also suggest that the young player himself prefers to represent Spain over Morocco.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Pitarch has been included in the RFEF's future plans since last September, with the opportunity now open for him to join the U-21 national team.
The same source also highlighted that the academy player's impressive performances in Real Madrid's last two starting lineups, particularly his standout display against Celta Vigo, have drawn the attention of the Spanish Football Federation.
AS confirmed that the RFEF acted swiftly to secure the player's commitment, capitalizing on his dual Spanish and Moroccan nationality, which made him a target for both national sides. Last summer, the federation successfully persuaded him to continue his development with Spain at the youth levels.
AS further reported that Thiago's commitment to Spain currently appears steadfast. Nevertheless, Morocco is expected to continue its efforts to recruit him internationally, particularly as the player has not yet made an appearance for the senior Spanish national team.
