De la Fuente: "Morocco and Senegal Will Be the Surprise of the 2026 World Cup"
Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente has tipped Morocco as one of the teams capable of causing a surprise at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico between June 11 and July 19.
In an interview with "RNE Deportes", de la Fuente was asked which team he expected to be the surprise of the 2026 World Cup. He responded, “Morocco seems exceptional to me,” and also acknowledged Senegal's strong performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The World Cup draw has placed the Moroccan national team against Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The Atlas Lions will play their second match against Scotland on June 19 at Gillette Stadium in Boston, before concluding their group stage with a clash against Haiti on June 24 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had previously announced the appointment of Mohamed Wahbi as coach for the Moroccan national team, tasked with leading them during the 2026 World Cup and attempting to replicate their achievement from the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
