Officially: Motsepe Confirms AFCON 2027 Will Be Held on Schedule in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has refuted circulating reports regarding the postponement of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Motsepe confirmed during a press conference held after the conclusion of the CAF Executive Committee meeting that "AFCON 2027" will take place on schedule, and there is no reason for its postponement.
The British newspaper "The Guardian" had previously indicated the possibility of postponing the upcoming edition of the Africa Cup of Nations to 2028, citing Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda's alleged lack of readiness to host the continental event.
Meanwhile, the head of the Kenyan organizing committee welcomed the idea of a postponement, considering that any delay to the competition would be beneficial for his country due to its timing coinciding with parliamentary and presidential elections (August 2027).
It is worth noting that the next Africa Cup of Nations will be held between June 19 and July 18, 2027.
