Ahead of CAF Meeting, Kenyan FA President Addresses AFCON 2027 Postponement Debate: 'To Avoid Any Doubt, Kenya is Ready'
Hussein Mohammed, President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), has addressed the ongoing debate regarding his country's readiness to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Mohammed affirmed that Kenya is steadily progressing with its preparations to co-host the continental showpiece alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
The Kenyan official wrote in a post on his official Facebook page: "To avoid any doubt, Kenya is ready to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania."
The FKF President's statement comes after several recent international reports suggested that the three co-hosting nations are currently unprepared to stage the tournament. These reports highlighted challenges related to stadium upgrades, development of training facilities, and ensuring logistical readiness in accordance with Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.
Some of these reports went even further, asserting that the CAF Executive Committee might discuss a proposal to postpone the 2027 AFCON finals during an upcoming meeting in Dar es Salaam. This potential discussion was attributed to what the reports described as organizational and structural challenges facing the joint bid. However, the FKF President emphasized that these details do not reflect the true situation on the ground, affirming that preparations are proceeding according to the established timeline.
All eyes will remain on the anticipated CAF meeting, scheduled to take place on Friday morning, which could definitively determine the fate of the upcoming continental tournament's timing.
