Guardiola: "When I see a child filming himself asking where his mother buried under rubble, I feel we have left them alone"
Pep Guardiola, the coach of English club Manchester City, reiterated his solidarity with the Palestinian people during a charity event in Barcelona, speaking about the dire conditions faced by children in Gaza.
In his speech, Guardiola stated: "When I see a child over these last two years in those images on social media and on television, filming himself and pleading, asking where his mother is, who is buried under the rubble and he doesn't know it yet, I always think: What must he be thinking? And I feel that we have left them alone, abandoned, and neglected."
He continued: "I always imagine him saying: 'Where are you? Come and help us.' And so far, we haven't done that yet, perhaps because those in power are cowards. Because they fundamentally send innocent young people to kill innocent people. This is what cowards do, because they are in their homes with heating when it's cold, and with air conditioning when it's hot."
He explained: "We must take a step forward, and just being present is a great deal. What bombs cause and what they aim to cause is silence, and for us to look the other way. That is their only goal, and for us not to take a step forward, and this is what we must resist. We simply must not look the other way; we must get involved and participate."
He added: "We stand before the world to prove that we are, naturally, on the side of the weakest, which in this case is Palestine, but not Palestine alone, but all causes. This is a statement for Palestine, and it is a statement for humanity."
