Official: Real Madrid Sacks Xabi Alonso, Appoints Arbeloa
Spanish club Real Madrid has dismissed coach Xabi Alonso from his position, a decision that had been anticipated since last December, following two consecutive home defeats against Celta Vigo (0-2) and Manchester City (1-2).
Following the loss to Manchester City, the club informed Alonso that it could not tolerate any further setbacks and demanded an immediate reaction from the team. This decision brings an end to a project that was initially planned to last three years, concluding it in just seven months.
Álvaro Arbeloa will take over as the team's coach, succeeding Alonso. This marks his first major coaching role, having previously only coached the youth categories of the royal club, most recently Real Madrid Castilla.
