Guardiola Quips: 'Do You Want to Sack Me? My Salary Is Too High, I Know You're Tired of Me'
Manager Pep Guardiola has addressed speculation regarding his future at Manchester City and the possibility of Enzo Maresca taking over as his successor. During a press conference, Guardiola affirmed his commitment to his contract, which runs until 2027.
Responding to a journalist's question, Guardiola said: "Do you want to sack me? My salary is too high... I still have one year left on my contract (until June 2027)."
He added: "Oh my God! I have a contract. I have said that a thousand times. I know you are tired of me, after 10 years here. I will leave one day, I promise you. I am happy here, and my management respects me and proved that last year when we didn't win a game for three months."
Guardiola also commented on Maresca's departure from Chelsea, describing him as a "fantastic manager."
Maresca previously served as Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City during the 2022-2023 season, which saw the club achieve the treble.
