Manchester City Overturns Real Madrid at the Bernabéu
English club Manchester City secured a crucial 2-1 victory away at the Santiago Bernabéu, defeating Spanish hosts Real Madrid in the sixth round of the Champions League group stage.
The match began with Real Madrid attempting to capitalize on counter-attacks, a strategy that paid off in the 28th minute when Brazilian Rodrygo scored after a run from midfield.
Real Madrid's (the "Merengues") lead was short-lived. Nico Aureli equalized for City in the 35th minute. German defender Antonio Rüdiger then committed a foul on Norwegian star Erling Haaland inside the box, leading to a penalty for City, which Haaland converted in the 44th minute to give his side the lead.
The match also saw the customary substitute appearance of Moroccan Brahim Díaz, introduced by coach Xabi Alonso in the 67th minute, replacing Dani Ceballos.
With this result, Manchester City climbed to fourth place with 13 points, two rounds before the end of the group stage. Real Madrid, meanwhile, dropped to eighth place, their points tally frozen at that position.
