Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso believes the referee's performance was subpar in his team's 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday, in Matchday 16 of La Liga. The referee issued two red cards to Real Madrid players, sending off defender Fran García in the 64th minute, followed by Álvaro Carreras in the 90+2nd minute.

Speaking to the media after the match, Xabi stated: "We are all angry. It wasn't the match we wanted, nor the result we were aiming for. Militão's early injury greatly disrupted us and made it difficult to reorganize the team. It's another injury added to our problems. We must turn the page quickly; in the end, it's only three points, and we still have a long way to go in La Liga. On Wednesday, we have an opportunity to respond in the Champions League and erase this bad feeling."

He added: "The current moment is undoubtedly painful, but we must look forward with the high standards this club demands, and with the necessary pride. This is our short-term goal."

When asked about his frustration during the match due to certain refereeing decisions, Alonso responded: "The referee's decisions confused us. He didn't account for time-wasting; it disrupted our rhythm, and he was too lenient. I don't know anything about Carreras' card; it was controversial. I didn't like it; it confused us a bit. It took us out of the game a bit during those periods. I didn't like the refereeing."
