Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, caused a stir with his comments regarding Rayan Cherki's performance in his team's match against Brentford in the English League Cup.

After the French player scored a goal, Guardiola tempered his praise, asserting that the former Olympique Lyonnais player "did not perform well."

Guardiola clarified his perspective, stating at a press conference on Friday, held before hosting West Ham United: "He is a boy who played like he was in the street, but I want to push him to be better, and I will not overpraise him. He is very young and has a mindset of continuous pursuit of development, but he still needs to progress in some aspects."

Manchester City will host West Ham tomorrow, Saturday (16:00 GMT+1), in a match for the 17th round of the English Premier League.
