Aboutrika Hails Yassine Bounou: 'A Great Goalkeeper is Key to Winning Titles'
Former Egyptian international Mohamed Aboutrika has praised Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou following his outstanding performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final. Bounou led the Moroccan national team to victory over Nigeria in a penalty shootout, securing their place in the final.
Speaking to Qatar's beIN Sports channel, Aboutrika stated: "Yassine Bounou is a school. To win a championship, you must have a great goalkeeper. He possesses personality and focus, controls crosses, and guides defenders and midfielders. He is a leader in every sense of the word, and a goalkeeper in every sense of the word."
He added: "When you take a penalty against Bounou, you have to think a thousand times. In penalty shootouts, he dives to the corner where the ball is going."
The Moroccan national team is set to face Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final next Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 PM (GMT+1).
