Lookman Addresses Osimhen Spat: 'We Haven't Spoken Yet, But He's Still Nigeria's Best'
Ademola Lookman, a Nigeria national team player, has addressed the controversial incident involving him and teammate Victor Osimhen during Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations 2025 Round of 16 match against Mozambique.
The incident occurred in the 64th minute of the game when a verbal exchange was observed between Lookman and Osimhen. Osimhen appeared frustrated after not receiving a pass during an attack, making angry gestures towards the substitutes' bench before coach Eric Scheilha replaced him minutes later.
Speaking at a press conference about the event, Lookman stated, "We haven't spoken yet." He added, "I don't think it's that important. The important thing is that we won (4-0)."
Lookman also made sure to praise his national team colleague, emphasizing Osimhen's importance to the squad. He remarked, "He is the most important player in Nigeria, and everyone knows that... He is a great striker and a special player, and anything else isn't really important."
Nigeria secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique. Lookman opened the scoring for Nigeria, followed by two consecutive goals from Osimhen. Akor Adams sealed the comprehensive win with the final goal of the match, underscoring Nigeria's complete superiority.
Nigeria is now scheduled to face the winner of the upcoming quarter-final clash between Algeria and DR Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
