Chukwueze: "AFCON Deserves Same Respect as World Cup and Euros"

Nigerian international Samuel Chukwueze has asserted that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is one of the biggest football tournaments in the world and should receive the same level of respect as the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship. His comments come amidst ongoing debate regarding the timing of the tournament in Morocco.

Speaking in press statements, Chukwueze emphasized that the African continent deserves appreciation and respect, stressing that AFCON is a major competition that all players dream of participating in. He added, "Everyone wants to play in the Africa Cup of Nations, it is one of the best tournaments in the world."

The Nigeria star further stated, "The Africa Cup of Nations should receive the same respect as the European Championship and the World Cup. You must also respect the African tournament."

Chukwueze also addressed the issue of international call-ups, noting that a player has no option to refuse if invited to represent their country. He said, "If you receive an international call-up, the coach and the club must understand that you want to represent your country. You cannot refuse, and no club has the right to prevent you or attack the Africa Cup of Nations."

Chukwueze concluded, "One can say that the timing was not suitable, but it is unacceptable for me to consider that the tournament is not big."
