Osimhen: "Nigeria Among Most Feared AFCON Teams, Opponents Will See Our Fighting Spirit"
Nigerian international Victor Osimhen affirmed that his national team is among the top contenders to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, ahead of their anticipated Round of 16 clash against Mozambique.
“Yes, I consider my national team among the favorites to win,” Osimhen said in statements reported by "africa.espn," emphasizing Nigeria's readiness to face any opponent in the knockout stages.
The Nigerian striker added, “We are one of the most formidable teams in this tournament. Any team can come and play against us; if they are good, they might qualify, but if not, we are capable of overcoming any opponent because we possess the necessary quality to face any big team.”
Osimhen stressed his respect for all qualified teams, stating, “We respect every team that qualifies for the second round, and any team we face will see Nigeria's fighting spirit.”
Osimhen spoke about the difficulty of the upcoming stage, confirming that knockout rounds differ from the group stage. He added, “The Round of 16 will be tougher than the group stage, but the players are ready to give their best. We are ready to face any opponent; we respect everyone but we fear no one.”
The Nigerian player concluded his statements by affirming his country's ambition to win the continental title: “Winning the cup would mean a lot, not just to me, but to the team and to all of Nigeria. It has been a long time since our last triumph, and we are sending a clear message in every training session that we came for the cup.”
He continued: “We want to win badly, like any other team that came here for the title. We are united to achieve this goal, and we are not getting carried away by the media hype, as we still have a lot of work ahead of us, and we are focusing on each match individually.”
