Nigeria Captain William Troost-Ekong Announces International Retirement Ahead of AFCON 2025
William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Nigerian national team, announced his international retirement on Thursday, less than three weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The 32-year-old's announcement follows his participation in the last three training camps under coach Eric Chelle, who took charge in January. Troost-Ekong represented his country in 83 matches, scoring 8 goals.
Troost-Ekong posted a video on his official social media accounts, documenting his most significant appearances with the Nigerian national team and announcing his international retirement. He accompanied the video with a caption that read: “I am grateful, and I will remain an Eagle forever. Playing for Nigeria has been the greatest honor of my life. My journey may end here, but my support will never stop. To the next chapter.”
