CAN 2027 Hosts Accelerate Preparations, CAF Sets August for Key Readiness Assessment
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), alongside the Ministers of Sport from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, held a high-level meeting in Kampala as part of the preparations for organizing the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The meeting aimed to reaffirm the shared commitment between the three nations and CAF to host a successful and distinguished edition of the continental tournament.
CAF's Acting Secretary-General praised the progress made by the host nations, affirming the continental football body's commitment to providing full support to ensure the event's success. He emphasized the importance of close coordination, timely execution, and adopting a unified regional approach.
For their part, the three nations expressed their appreciation to CAF President Patrice Motsepe and the technical team for their continuous support and guidance. They reiterated their commitment to working together to organize an exceptional edition of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The meeting included a comprehensive review of the progress, particularly concerning infrastructure readiness, including stadiums, training facilities, transport networks, airports, and accommodation facilities. The governments affirmed their commitment to meeting all required standards within the specified deadlines, with next August designated as a key date for readiness assessment.
Attention was also given to enhancing the fan experience through the development of the hospitality and tourism sectors and strengthening security and health aspects, highlighting East Africa as a destination capable of offering a unique experience. Regarding organization, an agreement was reached on the structure of the local organizing committee to ensure effective coordination among various parties.
Furthermore, efforts will be made to facilitate the movement of fans and teams by adopting a unified visa framework among the three nations, which will include streamlined entry and travel procedures during the tournament period.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold regular follow-up meetings to monitor progress and address challenges. It was affirmed that the three nations are steadily progressing towards organizing a historic edition of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, reflecting the spirit of African unity.
