Uganda FA President on AFCON 2027 Hosting: "Our Goal is to Make East Africa the Best Host Ever"
Hasim Magogo, President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), affirmed that the goal of co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya is to make East Africa the best host of the tournament ever.
Magogo posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating: "I want to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Uganda and the Honourable Minister, on behalf of the football family in Uganda and East Africa, for accepting our proposal to bid for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in East Africa."
He continued: "The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted us the hosting rights for AFCON 2027, and what I never doubted is that East Africa is capable of hosting such events. What we lacked was the opportunity and experience."
He added: "Through this experience, we want to learn so that we can help the future of football, not only in continental competitions but also in our national leagues. It is an opportunity for the East African community, as our Head of State has been very clear on this matter, that we need to integrate East Africa."
He further stated: "We believe that alongside the objectives, there is also value we add to our region by bringing in more visitors and tourists, which certainly supports the tourism sector and increases its added value to Africa's economies. I would like to emphasize that we will face challenges, and we want to learn from CAF everything we need to be at the required standard."
He clarified: "The goal is to make East Africa the best AFCON host ever, and I would like to thank CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who has accompanied us on this journey and always emphasizes the need to give all African nations a chance to host. As the football community in this country, we are very grateful that the infrastructure challenge in East Africa is finally being addressed."
He concluded: "We believe that we will not stop at the Africa Cup of Nations; other CAF tournaments will also be held here in the future, as we will have gained the necessary experience and facilities."
