Saudi Federation Announces Appointment of Greek Georgios Donis as New Head Coach for National Team, Succeeding Renard
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) announced on Thursday the appointment of Greek coach Giorgos Donis as the new head coach for the senior national team, succeeding Frenchman Hervé Renard.
Donis has signed a contract that will run until July 2027. This appointment follows the SAFF's resolution of its contractual agreement with former coach Renard.
Donis brings a wealth of experience, having previously managed prominent Greek clubs like AEK Athens and PAOK. He also has extensive knowledge of the Roshn Saudi League, having coached Al-Hilal, Al-Wehda, and Al-Fateh, in addition to his most recent role with Al-Khaleej.
The Saudi national team is currently preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19.
