Brazil's President: "12 Years Since Our 7-1 Defeat to Germany, We Hope It Won't Happen Again in 2026 World Cup"
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recalled the painful memories of the 2014 World Cup, where the Brazilian national team suffered a historic 7-1 defeat to Germany, expressing his hope that such an outcome would not be repeated in the upcoming World Cup.
Speaking at the Brazilian-German Economic Meeting in Hanover, Lula stated: "On July 8th this year, it will have been 12 years since Germany defeated Brazil 7-1, and we hope that will not happen again in the 2026 World Cup."
The famous match between Brazil and Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals saw the host nation trailing 0-5 at halftime on their home turf and in front of their fans, before the encounter concluded with a 7-1 victory for Die Mannschaft.
It is worth noting that the Brazilian national team will kick off its World Cup campaign by facing the Moroccan national team on Saturday, June 13th (23:00 GMT+1), at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
