Richarlison: "I Fell into Depression After the 2022 World Cup... I Was Driving My Car and Thought About Crashing into a Wall"
Brazilian player Richarlison has revealed he experienced severe depression after the 2022 World Cup, stating he overcame it with great difficulty. He added that he will not take his phone to the next World Cup to avoid being affected by personal and family issues.
In an interview with France Football magazine, Richarlison said: "I fell into a deep depression after the 2022 World Cup. I was driving my car and thought about crashing into a wall."
He added: "Everything went bad: the elimination, my agent's betrayal, family problems, recurring injuries. I was taking hits every day for a year and a half."
Richarlison continued: "I will go to the World Cup without a phone. In 2022, I found myself drowning in personal and family problems, and that's why I didn't perform well against Croatia, where I also picked up an injury."
He further stated: "I met an honest person who took over managing my affairs on my behalf, while I went to consult a psychologist. Most importantly, I met my wife, and with her, everything became different."
Brazil is set to compete in Group C of the 2026 World Cup, alongside Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti.
