Cafu: Time Poses Major Challenge for Neymar, Ancelotti Ahead of World Cup
Former Brazil captain Cafu discussed the national team's situation ahead of the World Cup finals, focusing on two prominent figures: Neymar and coach Carlo Ancelotti. His comments came during the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony in Madrid.
Regarding Neymar, Cafu stated: “Time remains the biggest challenge for Neymar, without a doubt. He doesn't have much time; we are about a month away from the World Cup, and he needs a series of matches. This is a very short time for a player of his caliber.” The former Brazilian player added: “We know very well what he can offer, but only he will determine whether he will be present at the World Cup or not.”
He continued: “If you ask me if Neymar will be at the World Cup? No one knows, not even them. Everything will depend on the time factor, and it is not in his favor currently.”
As for coach Carlo Ancelotti, Cafu confirmed that the same problem exists, explaining: “Ancelotti’s biggest challenge is also time.” He elaborated: “He has not had enough time to work or train the Brazilian national team well. He has not relied on the same lineup for two consecutive matches, nor has he had the opportunity to play two or three series of matches with the same team.”
Cafu added: “The challenge now is to build a team and give it a clear playing style, especially with only two friendly matches remaining against Panama and Egypt before the World Cup. In this short time, he must define the team’s identity.”
Cafu concluded by emphasizing that the future of the national team is linked to results, saying: “Continuing with the project requires achieving significant results. I am not saying that they must win the World Cup, as that is not easy, but they must deliver a strong performance and good results to ensure continuity in the next phase.”
