Iraola Confirms Kluivert's Eagerness for Quick Return Ahead of World Cup
Andoni Iraola, manager of English club AFC Bournemouth, announced that Dutch forward Justin Kluivert's recovery from knee surgery is progressing well and on schedule. Iraola noted that the player, who sustained the injury in early January, is eagerly looking forward to participating in matches before the current season concludes, driven by his desire to maintain his chances of being included in his national team's squad for the upcoming World Cup finals.
The manager elaborated on the Dutch international's condition, stating that the player is racing against time to return to action. Iraola said: "I think Justin is recovering very well, but he is in a hurry because he wants to play before the end of the season, and he also aims to keep his options open for participating in the World Cup." This strong desire comes at a crucial time for the forward, who has scored two goals for Bournemouth this season, especially after successfully regaining his place in the Dutch national team in November 2024, following a six-year absence under Ronald Koeman.
At the same time, Iraola expressed caution regarding rushing Kluivert's return to competition, emphasizing the importance of strictly following medical protocols and avoiding risks to the player's safety. The manager stated: "We must give the injury the necessary time it needs to heal," a warning about the need for patience despite the approaching global tournament. Meanwhile, the Dutch national team is set to begin its campaign in the tournament against Japan on June 14 as part of Group F.
