Motsepe: "If Anyone Wants to Take Legal Action Alleging CAF Corruption, I Encourage It"
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), affirmed that any individual or entity believing there is corruption within CAF can take the necessary legal action. He emphasized that he welcomes and even encourages such a step.
Speaking at a press conference held today, Thursday, in Rabat, Motsepe stated: "If there is anyone who wants to take legal action alleging corruption within CAF, I encourage it and welcome it." He added: "Any party can go to court or any competent authority to denounce any corruption they perceive."
Motsepe continued: "We always conduct lengthy investigations through independent and impartial judges, and this exposes us to what these allegations might entail. I know that some of these claims are baseless."
The CAF President also highlighted the importance of respecting official procedures when dealing with complaints: "We have procedures and processes that we follow, and I realized that one of the issues raised in Senegal was different, where it was said they contacted the CAF Secretary and did not receive a response, which is unacceptable. Whatever the issue, it is the duty of the Secretariat to at least acknowledge receipt or communicate via email."
These statements come against the backdrop of corruption allegations leveled by Senegalese officials against CAF following the announcement that Morocco would host the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
