Motsepe: "Committed to Supporting Morocco, AFCON 2025 Final Incident 'Extremely Disappointing'"
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), reaffirmed his strong commitment to supporting Morocco and developing African football upon his arrival in the Kingdom from Senegal.
In a statement to the official website of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Motsepe said: "I am here to express my deep personal commitment to the people of Morocco, and also on behalf of the member associations representing 54 countries in Africa, to affirm the full commitment of these nations to the Moroccan people, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and the government of Morocco."
He added: "We also affirm the commitment of the Confederation of African Football and the 54 member associations to work jointly with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, under the distinguished leadership of Fouzi Lekjaa, and we express our deep love for the Moroccan people and its institutions."
He continued: "What happened in the AFCON 2025 final 'Morocco' was extremely disappointing, and we are in the process of introducing changes to CAF's laws and regulations, as well as to the tournament systems, in order to address these shortcomings and ensure they are not repeated."
He concluded by saying: "CAF competitions are based on FIFA regulations, which are among the best globally, but some aspects need review. We will work to impose appropriate sanctions in the event of violations, to ensure respect for the laws and enhance the standing of African football globally."
