Oufkir: No Contact from Morocco, Focused on Netherlands; Decision Not Final
Young AZ Alkmaar forward Ayoub Oufkir has expressed his ambition to break into the senior Netherlands national team, following his impressive start with the youth squads.
Oufkir, a 20-year-old player of Moroccan descent, revealed that he has not received any contact from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, despite several dual-nationality players recently choosing to represent Morocco.
In statements to the Dutch newspaper "Voetbalprimeur," Oufkir said: "I have not been contacted by the Moroccan Federation. I am currently focused on the Dutch national team and strive to give my best whenever I am called up."
The young player added: "I play for the Netherlands and feel very comfortable within the national team, but I have not made my final decision yet, and all options remain open."
Oufkir had caught attention during the recent international break after scoring a goal and providing an assist in his debut for the Netherlands U21 team, contributing to their 2-1 victory over Belgium.
The AZ Alkmaar player expressed his great happiness with this start, stating: "This is something you always dream of. Wearing the national team jersey gives me a great moral boost, and I've noticed that recently. It's a truly wonderful feeling."
It is worth noting that Oufkir was one of the key players who contributed to the Netherlands U19 team winning the European Championship title last summer, which further enhances his chances of securing a greater opportunity with the senior national team in the future.
