Lewandowski Weighs Barcelona Extension Amid Salary Reduction Proposal
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is considering his future with Spanish club Barcelona as his current contract approaches its expiration in June. The Catalan club has presented the player with an an offer to extend his stay until June 2027 (one additional season). However, this proposal is conditional on the striker accepting a significant reduction in his annual salary, which currently stands at a gross €26 million.
Lewandowski confirmed that he has not yet made a final decision regarding his next destination. He stated: "Regarding my future and potential decisions, I am sticking to what I said some time ago. Nothing has changed for me, and I am giving myself enough time to determine what is best, so I haven't made any decision yet."
In the same context, Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, revealed significant external interest in the player, explaining: "He has very important offers from Saudi Arabia."
The Polish star is also attracting interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs like Chicago Fire, as well as from Serie A clubs including AC Milan and Juventus.
Lewandowski is expected to finalize his position between April and May, taking into account his family's desire to remain in Barcelona. This season, the player has scored 16 goals and provided 3 assists in 37 matches across all competitions.
Lewandowski, aged 37, joined Barcelona in 2022. He is currently seeking to balance the club's new financial terms with significant external offers before taking the next step in his football career.
