Lewandowski Weighs Barcelona Extension Amid Salary Reduction Proposal
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is currently assessing his future with Spanish club Barcelona as his current contract approaches its expiration in June next year. The Catalan club has presented the player with an offer to extend his stay until June 2027. However, this proposal is contingent on the striker accepting a significant reduction to his current annual gross salary of €26 million.
Lewandowski confirmed that he has not yet made a final decision regarding his next destination. He stated, “Regarding my future and potential decisions, I stand by what I said some time ago. Nothing has changed for me, and I am giving myself enough time to determine what is best. So, I haven't made any decision yet.” In the same vein, Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed significant external interest in the player, explaining, “He has very important offers from Saudi Arabia.”
The Polish star is also attracting interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs, such as Chicago Fire, as well as Serie A teams including AC Milan and Juventus. Lewandowski is expected to finalize his decision between April and May, taking into account his family's preference to remain in Barcelona. This season, the player has scored 16 goals and provided 3 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Lewandowski, 37, joined Barcelona in 2022. He is currently weighing the club's new financial terms against significant external offers before deciding on the next step in his football career.
