Bastoni Open to Barcelona Move, Valued at €70 Million
Barcelona is looking to strengthen its squad in the upcoming summer transfer window, aiming to sign a new striker as Robert Lewandowski's departure looms, in addition to acquiring a defender whose qualities align with Hansi Flick's playing style.
The sporting management is keen on a left-footed defender who excels in aerial duels. Alessandro Bastoni, Inter Milan's defender, is considered the prime candidate who meets these criteria. He also boasts extensive experience, having been a key player in the Inter team that reached the Champions League final, and is nearing 50 international appearances for his country.
Although official negotiations have not yet commenced, Barcelona has sounded out the Italian player, who expressed his desire to join the Catalan club next season. He conveyed his readiness to embrace a new environment and play at Camp Nou.
Inter also appears willing to negotiate, but talks between the two clubs have not yet begun. The primary challenge lies in the player's estimated price of around 70 million euros, which is a very high figure.
Barcelona faces ongoing challenges related to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules for the upcoming season. Despite their confidence in achieving the 1:1 rule in the next transfer market, this does not grant them a blank cheque, as they must balance their accounts with the new striker's deal.
For these reasons, and as Barcelona enters the crucial stage of the season, the club is currently limited to sounding out players and their respective clubs regarding desired reinforcements. They have already secured Bastoni's preliminary approval concerning an attempt to sign him for next season.
However, Bastoni is not the only option for Barcelona. As is customary in every transfer window, sporting director Deco has alternative plans should initial targets not be met. His list includes other names such as Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, who also impresses the Catalan club, and Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
