"We Expected to Talk Only About Football," Mascherano Comments on Inter Miami's White House Visit

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano spoke about his team's visit to the White House, which included an appearance by former United States President Donald Trump.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of their match against D.C. United, Mascherano said, "We simply respected the protocol, which is a tradition for the champion team to be received at the White House." He noted that the visit was to celebrate the club's 2025 league title.

He continued, "We were told that the visit would simply be to congratulate us on the league title, and that the discussion would only be about football, but that's not what happened."

The Argentine coach added that the visit had been planned for a long time, coinciding with the team's presence in the Washington area. "It had been scheduled for a long time that this visit would take place during the week we would be playing here in Washington. We stayed there for a few hours and were able to visit a part of the White House, not much, just what we could do."

Regarding their meeting with President Trump, Mascherano confirmed that contact with him was limited. "We arrived early, waited for a while, and didn't see much of the White House. We also only met President Trump at the moment everyone saw on television."
