Deco Defends Yamal: 'Lamine Emerged During Barcelona's Rebuilding Phase, Messi Integrated Gradually'

In an extensive interview with "Cadena SER" radio, Barcelona's sporting director Deco offered an in-depth perspective on the differences between the careers of Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal, highlighting the distinct circumstances each player faced within the Catalan club.

Deco asserted that comparing the two players is unfair, explaining: "They are two different phases and two different players. Both possess exceptional talent and a superior understanding of the game, but the circumstances surrounding them were entirely distinct."

He added that Messi developed in a calm environment, free from the pressure or the need to play a starring role at a young age, as the team at that time was experiencing a period of clear footballing maturity.

In contrast, the sporting director believes Lamine Yamal found himself in a more complex reality, stating: "Lamine emerged in a Barcelona that is undergoing a rebuilding phase, whereas Messi gradually joined a complete team with an average age of 26 to 27 years. Lionel integrated step by step."

Deco then recalled the first time he saw the Argentine star up close, adding with admiration: "Messi was intriguing. I went to watch the reserve team just to see him, and his quality amazed everyone who watched him."
