Spanish Federation Declares La Liga Lacks Authority to Postpone Rayo Vallecano vs. Oviedo Match
The Spanish Football Federation, through its sole judge, has announced that the Spanish La Liga lacks the regulatory authority to suspend or reschedule the match between Rayo Vallecano and Oviedo. The game had originally been postponed on February 7 due to the poor condition of the pitch.
The Federation's sole judge rejected Real Oviedo's request to be awarded a 3-0 victory for the unplayed fixture, classifying it as "not held." The judge further stated that La Liga "lacks regulatory empowerment" to make such decisions, emphasizing that the authority to reschedule the match, which La Liga had attempted to set for March 4, does not exist.
Meanwhile, the judge referred the file for analysis of potential sanctions against Rayo Vallecano to the Disciplinary Committee. In response, the Spanish La Liga rejected the Federation's decision, explaining that it "deviates from the established legal framework" for organizing professional competitions, which La Liga considers a well-established standard.
