Arbeloa on 9 Minutes of Stoppage Time: 'Perhaps More Was Needed'
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa commented on the refereeing controversy surrounding the match against Rayo Vallecano, as well as the role of the team's fans in securing the victory, following their 2-1 win in Week 22 of the Spanish League.
The referee added nine minutes of stoppage time, during which Real Madrid was awarded a penalty in the dying moments, scoring the winning goal in the 90+10th minute. Arbeloa stated: "The red card seemed deserved to me. As for the penalty, I didn't see it clearly, but I was told it was correct and clear."
He added: "Regarding the stoppage time, perhaps more time should have been added, because every time the ball was taken out of the goal, it took a full minute. Other minutes could have been added, but there is no problem with that."
Responding to a question about the boos witnessed in previous matches, Arbeloa affirmed in the post-match press conference that the support from the stands was crucial, saying: "I respect all opinions and viewpoints, but I saw a crowd that pushed us towards victory. They supported us in moments when we needed backing, and without them, perhaps that goal wouldn't have come. I always say: players are better with their fans, and today that was confirmed once again."
Regarding his understanding of the pressure at Real Madrid, Arbeloa emphasized that victories remain the primary standard within the Royal Club, stating: "You are fortunate to have a coach in front of you who doesn't need anyone to explain what Real Madrid means to him."
