Former Libya Star Tariq El Taib: 'Morocco Was Subjected to a Media Conspiracy'
Former Libyan international Tariq El Taib defended Morocco, stating that the media attack it faced during the competition was exaggerated and not based on factual information.
El Taib affirmed that Morocco was subjected to a media conspiracy and that talk of 'backroom deals' or referee sympathy towards the Moroccan national team is incorrect. He pointed out that if such practices truly existed, Morocco would have won a greater number of continental titles.
The former Libyan football star stressed that linking the elimination of some teams to poor organization or refereeing is illogical, explaining that losses on the field have no relation to the quality of accommodation or organizational conditions.
El Taib highlighted that Morocco provided excellent organization for the Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing several previous editions, noting that a large number of participating teams praised the infrastructure and quality of the stadiums.
The commentator attributed part of the criticism directed at Morocco to the successes it has achieved in recent years, in addition to its readiness to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, considering that this made it a target for unjustified smear campaigns.
El Taib concluded his statements by emphasizing that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation should have had a counter-media strategy to refute rumors and clarify facts to public opinion.
