"They Are Expensive and We Were Severely Affected"… Infantino Acknowledges High 2026 World Cup Ticket Prices
Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), addressed the controversial high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, confirming that FIFA has received numerous requests for them.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Infantino stated, “The tickets are not cheap. We were severely affected, and I personally was affected, by the exorbitant ticket prices. The main criticisms certainly came from Germany and England.”
He added, “Now, fans from the United States top the list of countries with the most ticket requests, followed by Germany, and then England, because everyone wants to attend and participate.”
Infantino continued, “To give you another comparative figure, FIFA has sold approximately 50 million tickets in the history of the World Cup over 100 years. For this edition, however, in the first four weeks alone, we received requests equivalent to a thousand years of World Cup tournament history all at once.”
The FIFA President concluded his remarks by saying, “This is unique, it’s amazing, but I think it clearly reveals people’s trust in the organization.”
Regarding reports suggesting the potential refusal of entry visas to the United States for fans from certain countries, Infantino denied those claims.
