Motsepe: "We Want the Opening and Final of the 2030 World Cup to be Held in Morocco Because the Infrastructure Here is World-Class"
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), praised Morocco for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations, affirming the Kingdom's capability to organize both the opening and final matches of the 2030 World Cup.
Motsepe stated in remarks to the Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport": "I don't know where the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations will be held, but I know where we will be in 2027, in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda."
He continued: "The current tournament in Morocco is undoubtedly the best ever in terms of organization and technical quality, and this is what we want for African football – excellence on and off the pitch."
He added: "Sunday's final match between Morocco and Senegal brings together the two highest-ranked teams on the continent, and in the quarter-finals, we had the top 8 teams. It was an exceptional competition, but don't ask me who will win."
Regarding the 2030 World Cup, Motsepe clarified: "There is already a winner, and that is Morocco, which is competing with Spain to host the World Cup final. As a FIFA member, I must be neutral, but I am passionate about highlighting what is best for African football."
He further stated: "We would like the opening match to be held in Morocco, and of course, the final as well, because the infrastructure here is world-class."
When asked if the "Bernabéu" stadium poses strong competition, Motsepe laughed and said: "Do you mean the Bernabéu in Rabat? I love Spanish football, as well as Italian, but my greatest love is for African football."
