Martin Demichelis and Family Miraculously Rescued From Drowning Incident

Former 45-year-old Argentine international player Martin Demichelis, along with his children and niece, narrowly escaped a drowning incident on December 31st at an unsupervised beach in José Ignacio, Uruguay.

Demichelis and his family were swept away by strong currents while swimming. However, two lifeguards who were surfing nearby heard their cries and managed to rescue them.

Commenting on the incident, the head of the rescue team stated: "They were able to rescue them without any incident... Everything ended well, but we have had other cases that did not end this way."

A local journalist, quoted by the newspaper "A Bola," added: "It's a miracle they are still alive... The water here is very deep, and the currents quickly sweep swimmers out to sea."

Demichelis was a World Cup runner-up in 2014 and represented the Argentine national team in 51 matches.
