Senegalese Fans, Algerian National's Detention Extended After AFCON Final Riots
The Public Prosecution in Rabat has decided to extend the pre-trial detention period for Senegalese fans arrested in connection with the riots that occurred at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium during the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal.
According to informed sources, a total of 19 individuals were arrested, including an Algerian national. They were initially scheduled to appear before the King's Prosecutor at the Rabat Court of First Instance today, Tuesday, but the prosecution decided to extend their pre-trial detention until tomorrow, Wednesday.
The sources indicated that this decision was made to review the medical certificates submitted by the guards and organizers who were assaulted, in order to legally categorize the situation and await the stabilization of their health conditions. Additionally, the authorities are awaiting an assessment of the material damages resulting from the chaos.
