Directorate General of National Security Denies Death of Senegalese Citizen Due to Assault After Africa Cup Final

The Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) has categorically refuted claims circulated by some Senegalese accounts and websites, which alleged that a Senegalese citizen was physically assaulted with a bladed weapon in Morocco after the Africa Cup of Nations final match, leading to his death.

In an official statement, the DGSN clarified that national security services conducted in-depth investigations and confirmed that no intentional homicide or assault leading to death involving a Senegalese citizen as a victim had been recorded. Furthermore, the only incident registered involved the body of an unidentified individual from a sub-Saharan country in the city of Salé, which had an alcoholic odor and showed no signs of violence, apart from some minor marks caused by stray dogs.

The statement added that specialized security services initiated a judicial inquiry under the supervision of the Public Prosecution to identify the deceased. Fingerprints were collected and matched against national and international databases, in coordination with Interpol and Senegalese security authorities. Additional investigations were also conducted regarding the person presented in Senegalese publications as the alleged victim, revealing him to be a Senegalese citizen holding a residency card in Morocco, but not residing at the declared address.

The DGSN concluded by affirming that the reports regarding a Senegalese citizen being assaulted are false and misleading. The only incident subject to judicial investigation is that of an unidentified body, which has been submitted for medical autopsy to determine the cause of death, with all necessary legal procedures being followed to uncover the circumstances.
