Arsenal Targets Premier League and Champions League Double This Season
English club Arsenal is targeting a Premier League and Champions League double this season, with the team currently leading both competitions. In this context, manager Mikel Arteta stated earlier in December: “We have built a squad, in my opinion, that is the best to give ourselves a chance to win the league and the Champions League.”
Speaking on Monday, ahead of his team's match against Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta noted: “It will depend on the future availability of injured players. We are Arsenal, and we have to say to ourselves, ‘Okay, what do we need?’ We have to look actively. After that, whether we will be able to do it or not, that is another question. But our job is to be prepared to anticipate everything.”
Former players at the club see great potential in the team. Robert Pires affirmed that Arsenal is “ready to win,” highlighting the squad's depth. Meanwhile, Pascal Cygan pointed out that Arsenal has not reached a Champions League final since 2006, when they lost 1–2 to Barcelona.
In a related context, Gilles Grimandi emphasized the importance of players Declan Rice and David Raya, while Bacary Sagna highlighted Martin Ødegaard's return following Arsenal's recent victories against Wolverhampton (2–1), Bayern Munich (3–1), and Brighton (2–1).
