Isak, Premier League's Most Expensive Signing, Out for 'Several Months' with Injury
Liverpool has been dealt a significant blow following an injury to their striker Alexander Isak, the Premier League's most expensive signing at €150 million. Isak underwent surgery yesterday, Monday, for an ankle fracture and a leg shard injury, sustained during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The injury occurred during a challenge from Tottenham player Micky van de Ven, just as Isak struck the ball that resulted in Liverpool's opening goal.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed on Tuesday that Isak will be out of action "for several months," describing the injury as "long-term and a very big disappointment." Slot also noted that Van de Ven's challenge was "reckless."
Slot added, "If you make a challenge like that 10 times, 10 times there is a serious chance of injuring the player with a serious injury."
Hugo Ekitike is expected to step in for Isak, with Slot having previously lauded his speed and goal-scoring prowess. Looking ahead to the upcoming Wolverhampton match, Slot indicated that Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo have a 50-50 chance of featuring, while Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo will be unavailable. Jeremie Frimpong, however, will be available to start.
