Regragui Hopes Saiss Injury Not Serious: 'We Need All Players to Go Far in AFCON'

Morocco national team coach Walid Regragui addressed the situation of defender Romain Saiss following their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage, expressing hope that his injury is not serious.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Regragui stated: “The precise diagnosis of what he felt behind the knee, whether it’s a muscular issue or something else, we will know later. I cannot confirm whether he left the field due to a genuine injury or not. That will be determined quickly.”

He added: “We hope the injury is not serious so we can have him back during the competition. As I mentioned, he is a very experienced player. We have a complete squad, including Wael El Aynaoui and Adam Masina, so we do have solutions and alternatives.”

Regragui concluded: “We knew that if we wanted to go far in the tournament, we would need everyone, but his potential absence also places a burden on the team. This is the situation. Managing players is not easy, and I know this competition is always challenging. We will have to deal with absences. We have prior experience in this area, and we hope it is not serious.”
