Marc Brys: "No One Has Informed Me of Cameroon Dismissal, Not Even Eto'o"
Cameroonian football finds itself in an unprecedented situation just five days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations finals, with the future of Belgian coach Marc Brys at the helm of the national team remaining uncertain.
Brys confirmed in statements to the "dhnet" newspaper that he has not received any official notification of his termination, either verbally or in writing. However, he has also not received a travel ticket to Morocco, where the tournament will be held, further increasing the ambiguity surrounding his situation.
The Belgian coach stated: "I sent an email to two people at the Ministry of Sports to obtain a travel ticket to Morocco, but I haven't received a clear response. Each party is blaming the other. Officially, no one has told me I'm sacked, neither verbally nor in writing, but since I haven't received my travel tickets, it doesn't take much intelligence to understand what's happening."
Samuel Eto'o, President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), is considered the party most eager to terminate Brys's contract since his appointment, especially after the "Indomitable Lions" failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Eto'o had previously announced the appointment of a new coach, but the Ministry of Sports, which originally appointed Brys, has yet to issue an official decision regarding his dismissal.
Brys added sarcastically, "Not even Samuel Eto'o has contacted me regarding this matter."
Cameroon is scheduled to play its first match in the Africa Cup of Nations on December 24 against Gabon, in a group that also includes Ivory Coast and Mozambique.
