Samuel Eto'o Officially Re-elected as FECAFOOT President for New Four-Year Term
Samuel Eto'o has been re-elected as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) for a new four-year term. The re-election took place during the General Assembly held today, Saturday, in Yaoundé. Eto'o secured an almost unanimous victory, receiving 85 out of 87 votes. This outcome reflects continued confidence in him within the federation's structures, despite the disagreements that characterized his relationship with the Ministry of Sports during his first term.
Despite this significant victory, the elections were held in a tense atmosphere. The Cameroonian Ministry of Sports had called for the suspension of the process, citing alleged irregularities in the electoral path. However, the electoral committee and the federation's General Assembly insisted on proceeding with the vote as scheduled, asserting that all legal conditions were met. This decision reignited a long-standing debate between the federation and certain official bodies.
In his new term, Eto'o faces numerous challenges. Key among these are improving the federation's image after years of disputes, reorganizing local leagues, enhancing the performance of national teams, and strengthening the federation's independence from political interference.
