Broos: "Eto'o Insulted Me and Wanted Me Out of Cameroon Coaching Because I Was a Big Threat!"
Belgian coach Marc Brys was sacked just days before the Africa Cup of Nations, after failing to lead Cameroon to qualification for the 2026 World Cup. He thus became one of the figures impacted by the crisis engulfing the national team.
Speaking to "VTM NIEUWS", the Belgian coach discussed the tense atmosphere that characterized his time in charge, directly accusing Samuel Eto'o, President of the Cameroonian Football Federation. "I have other ambitions than to be constantly on alert," Brys said. "It's very aggressive and deceptive, and I'm tired of it."
He continued: "There is a lot of negativity that prevents me from working properly, and Eto'o always sought to remove me as quickly as possible. From the very first minute, he insulted me, and I responded to him."
Brys elaborated: "I was a significant threat to him, and that was a lesson for me. I advise everyone to go through such an experience, but it shouldn't last too long. One either fears it and doesn't want to engage in this conflict, or one views it as a valuable experience."
He concluded: "Taking charge of the Cameroon national team was a challenge for me, and we will see what the consequences will be. My contract runs until September; it's a contract with the minister, and he did not dismiss me. However, all this ambiguity, pressure, and sabotage is certainly not the objective."
