French Reports: Hakimi Targets AFCON 2025 Return in Morocco
French press reports indicate that Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain star, has set his sights on returning to action in time for the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21st.
Hakimi sustained a severe ankle injury during his team's Champions League match against Bayern Munich, following a forceful tackle from Colombian player Luis Diaz. The injury forced him to leave the pitch in tears, fearing he would miss the upcoming AFCON tournament.
The same sources clarified that medical examinations revealed Hakimi suffered a severe sprain in his left ankle, which does not require surgical intervention. He is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, with his full focus now on a rehabilitation program to ensure his readiness before the opening match against Comoros.
The report further confirmed that Hakimi has shown strong determination to be fit for the continental tournament. He has already been in contact with the technical staff of the Moroccan national team, led by Walid Regragui, to coordinate his recovery and preparation phases for a swift return to play.
