Al-Salami: Argentina Not Our Current Focus; Algeria Match Will Be Even and Difficult
Jamal Al-Salami, head coach of the Jordan national football team, confirmed that "Al-Nashama" are continuing their intensive preparations for their historic first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He noted that the technical staff is adopting a gradual approach to preparation, without an early focus on their match against Argentina.
During an open training session in the Jordanian capital, Amman, Al-Salami stated in media remarks: “We are not currently thinking about facing Argentina. Each stage has its own circumstances and specific plan, and when the time for that match comes, there will be an appropriate time for every discussion.”
He added: “We will enter the final phase of our preparatory program by traveling to Switzerland at the end of this week, before heading later to the United States in preparation for the start of the World Cup.”
He continued: “We rely on playing strong and diverse matches against different footballing styles, starting with Austria, then Algeria, and finally Argentina, in order to gain experience and adapt to high levels of play.”
The Moroccan coach also praised the strength of the Algerian national team, emphasizing that the encounter between the two teams would be even and difficult.
He said: “Algeria possesses distinguished players who have won numerous titles in various leagues, and the chances are close between the two teams, because a single football match can witness all scenarios.”
Al-Salami concluded by affirming that the Arab nature of the match would give it a special enthusiasm, stressing Jordan's readiness to deliver a strong performance before the start of the global spectacle.
