Motsepe: 'Morocco is My Home, Champions League Final Features Two of Continent's Biggest Clubs'
Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe affirmed that his return to Morocco holds special significance, expressing great pride in the Kingdom hosting the CAF Champions League final. He also highlighted the remarkable development of African football at the club level.
Upon his arrival in Morocco, Motsepe told the Royal Moroccan Football Federation channel: “I would like to start, as usual, by saying it's good to be back home. Morocco is my home, and tomorrow we will witness an exciting CAF Champions League final between two very big clubs on the continent.”
The CAF President added: “What makes me proud is that the match will be watched in 100 countries around the world, which reflects the significant development of African club football, even though the continent only comprises 54 countries.”
He continued: “I would like to first thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, then the Head of Government and the Moroccan government, as well as my brother Fouzi Lekjaa, in addition to the Moroccan people for their support of football, both men's and women's clubs.”
Motsepe explained that one of CAF's main objectives is to ensure the success of these major continental events, stating: “One of our most important goals is tomorrow's match, which will determine the continent's champion, alongside the World Cup which will take place very soon.”
He further added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Moroccan national team on their achievements. They made the Moroccan people and the African continent proud with what they accomplished in Qatar, and I am confident they will continue to excel.”
He added: “I also wish good luck to all nine African national teams that will participate in the World Cup in America, Canada, and Mexico, and I believe they will honor the continent.”
He concluded: “I will return here in about a week for the U17 tournament, and I wish good luck to all these teams, as they represent the future of African football. After the match, I will depart for the United States and then return in about a week. Finally, I wish both teams all the best and welcome the passionate Moroccan football fans.”
