Esperance Sacks Coach Patrice Beaumelle After Derby Loss to Club Africain
Esperance Sportive de Tunis officially announced the termination of French coach Patrice Beaumelle's contract following the team's 1-0 loss in the capital derby against Club Africain, a defeat that cost the team the Tunisian League title.
In an official statement, Esperance confirmed the end of Beaumelle's tenure with the first team, appointing coach Christian Bracconi to oversee the squad until the end of the current season in an attempt to salvage what remains of it.
The decision to dismiss Beaumelle came after a series of negative results experienced by the "Bab Souika" team, both domestically and continentally. The team failed to reach the CAF Champions League final after being eliminated by Mamelodi Sundowns, before suffering another blow by losing the league title to their traditional rivals, Club Africain.
Beaumelle had taken charge of Esperance last February, but his spell ended quickly after failing to achieve the club's objectives, particularly following the derby loss which ignited the anger of the team's fans and management.
