Esperance Coach Beaumelle: Disallowed Goal Denied Us a Comprehensive Win Against Sundowns
French coach Patrice Beaumelle of Espérance Sportive de Tunis asserted that his team deserved a better outcome than the one-goal defeat against visiting South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final.
Beaumelle stated that the goal scored by Aboubakar Diakité, which was subsequently disallowed, was legitimate. He added that had it been allowed, Espérance could have secured a comprehensive victory.
The French coach further explained during the press conference that his strategy relied on vertical play and exploiting spaces behind the South African team's defense, a tactic that unsettled the opponent on several occasions.
Beaumelle continued to defend his technical choices and the substitutions he made, clarifying that introducing Diakité and Diarra was aimed at leveraging their attacking capabilities, despite the team lacking some focus in the final touch.
He concluded by affirming that Espérance would seek to compensate for their loss in the upcoming second leg match in Pretoria, aiming to secure their spot in the final.
