However, Mamelodi Sundowns surprised everyone early in the second half when Colombian player Bryan Leon netted the opening goal in the 52nd minute.
Esperance's reaction was swift, with Malian player Aboubakar Diakite scoring in the 65th minute. However, the referee disallowed the goal after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Sundowns were reduced to 10 men after Grant Kekana received a red card in the 84th minute. Despite the numerical advantage, Esperance failed to capitalize, and the match concluded with the South African team securing a 1-0 victory.
